On Saturday, May 16, 2009, the wines of the Yadkin Valley will be available for tasting at the 8th Annual Yadkin Valley Wine Festival. There will be twenty-eight wineries pouring their wares, including wineries located within the viticultural area making estate wines, wineries located within the viticultural area making wines with fruit sourced from outside the valley, and wineries located outside the valley making wines with fruit sourced from within the viticultural area.
This is a showcase festival, and a number of the wineries in attendance pour only at this annual event. Held at Elkin Municipal Park, several miles west of I-77 in Surry County, the festival is open to all, including families. Those desiring to taste, consume or purchase wine are required to obtain a tasting wristband. No coolers or pets are permitted to be brought into the festival. Advance tickets ($16) are available at all Lowe's Foods stores in the Carolinas, or at the gate on the day of the festival ($20). In addition to the wineries, there will be food and soft drink/water vendors, crafts, and music throughout the day. See www.yvwf.com for more information.
